Congratulations to the 2023 BIADE Community Award Recipients

2023 Caregiver of the Year honoring Ms. Barbara Kendzierski.

Barbara’s story is a true portrait of strength.  We featured her story in the December 2022 issue of our “Brain Buzz” newsletter.  Recently the Brain Injury Association of America featured Barbara’s story in their quarterly newsletter, “The Challenge”.  Please be sure to check it out on page 25.

2023 Volunteer of the Year to Ms. Amy Kratz.

Amy incurred a Traumatic Brain Injury on September 13, 1973, as the result of a violent assault on the way to school for her first day of 4th grade when she was 9 years old.

Amy’s traumatic brain injury resulted in her having seizures. Her life is filled with struggles that built a great resilience, something that she is grateful for.

BIADE Board Vice President Stefanie Lancaster presents 2023 Award recipient Amy Kratz 2023 Volunteer of the Year award.

2023 BIADE Community Partner of the Year, Post Acute Medical Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Dover.

Our history with PAM Health Dover goes back to before the PAM building was built.  We started meeting with PAM leadership as soon as we heard they were coming to Dover.

We knew having a facility in Dover like PAM would be life-changing for brain injury survivors and their families.

We have been impressed with the level of commitment demonstrated by the PAM’s leadership and the generosity they have extended to BIADE and the brain injury community.

2023 BIADE Corporate Partner of the Year, Del-One Federal Credit Union.

Del-One Federal Credit Union has been a core supporter of BIADE and the brain injury community.  Their commitment to the community is inspiring.  They have supported our efforts financially and shared their time and talents on our Corporate Board.  The leadership provided by their volunteers has been transformative for BIADE.

Sharon Lyons Distinguished Community Service Award

This award was created to honor the recipients’ “body of work” in the brain injury community.

It is fitting that Sharon Lyons will be our first recipient and will have the honor of having her name attached to this award from this day forward.  She was a true trailblazer and helped to shape BIADE into the organization it is today.  She has left a lasting impression on the brain injury community and has helped countless brain injury survivors and caregivers throughout her life.

Sharon Lyons MSN Survivor - Past President

These masks were painted by brain injury survivors from Sussex, Kent, and New Castle Counties at our 2020 Conference as a part of a program allowing them to express how their brain injury felt to them.  Each mask tells a different story.  We use these masks now to promote awareness of the prevalence of brain injury and to give survivors a voice and the means to educate others on what it is like to live with a brain injury.  This also helps to show others that persons living with a disability due to their brain injury are like anyone else, deserving of dignity, respect, and compassion.
